What’s the harm with sending your child to school with over the counter medication for a headache or other common ailment? Turns out, it depends on your school. In Central Florida, Orange, Seminole, and Osceola Counties have rules governing what over the counter drugs can be brought to schools in each district.
For example, in the School District of Osceola County, students are forbidden to possess over the counter drugs. Doing so is considered a level 2 infraction, punishable by up to expulsion. And if the student has been prescribed OTC medication, then the medication must be checked in to the school health room. Failing to do so could also lead to up to a five-day suspension.
